You're back from your leadership development programme? Now what?

According to a recent report, the executive education program market was estimated to be valued at US$46 billion in 2023 and is expected to surpass US$133 billion by 2033.


Companies are investing heavily in leadership development, even in challenging times.


๐’๐จ, ๐ฐ๐ก๐š๐ญ ๐ก๐š๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ž๐ง๐ฌ ๐ฐ๐ก๐ž๐ง ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ ๐œ๐จ๐ฆ๐ž ๐›๐š๐œ๐ค ๐Ÿ๐ซ๐จ๐ฆ ๐š ๐ฅ๐ž๐š๐๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ๐ก๐ข๐ฉ ๐ฉ๐ซ๐จ๐ ๐ซ๐š๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ž?ย 

Maybe youโ€™ve spent a few days cocooned away immersed in learning about yourself, new concepts, and new ideas ๐ŸŒด. Youโ€™re feeling inspired and full of purpose, and you return to business as usual the next dayโ€ฆ

On the provider and programme design side, there's a huge amount we can do to ensure learnings are impactful, relevant, and carry over in terms of design, measurement, and impact (that's a whole other postโ€”maybe next week!).


๐๐ฎ๐ญ ๐ฐ๐ก๐š๐ญ ๐š๐›๐จ๐ฎ๐ญ ๐จ๐ง ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ฉ๐š๐ซ๐ญ๐ข๐œ๐ข๐ฉ๐š๐ง๐ญ ๐ฌ๐ข๐๐ž?

Think about what you want to communicate and share in advance. What messages or key takeaways do you want to share with your team? Where do you need support? Where would you like to make changes? Similarly, communicate your intentions clearly. Be candid about your ideas for change and involve others.

๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐๐š๐œ๐ž ๐˜๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ฌ๐ž๐ฅ๐Ÿ:ย You may come back wanting to make changes right away, but prioritising and pacing yourself is important!ย 

๐Ÿ‘ฅ ๐๐ฎ๐ข๐ฅ๐ ๐š ๐’๐ฎ๐ฉ๐ฉ๐จ๐ซ๐ญ ๐๐ž๐ญ๐ฐ๐จ๐ซ๐ค: Stay connected to those you went through the programme with, it can be a great place for accountability and sharing learnings.ย 

๐Ÿค” ๐“๐š๐ค๐ž ๐“๐ข๐ฆ๐ž ๐ญ๐จ ๐‘๐ž๐Ÿ๐ฅ๐ž๐œ๐ญ: Often a lot is covered, and hopefully there is space for reflection. I still like to use a reflective learning model to structure my learning post programme:ย 

- ๐–๐ก๐š๐ญ: Descriptive, what did you learn?

- ๐’๐จ ๐ฐ๐ก๐š๐ญ:ย What impact did it have on you? What was the effect?ย 

- ๐๐จ๐ฐ ๐ฐ๐ก๐š๐ญ: What will you carry going forward? What will change?ย
